Meet Tour Leader Vic Behind the Mic

Sep 26
Distance learning allows students to balance their other commitments more effectively, at least in cases they are adult learners, commuters, and part-time students. They don’t believe that they sacrifice a quality education for the convenience of utilising distance learning.
How does online learning work? Learning management systems (LMS) provide an accessible exchange of information between professors and students. This way, students can view learning material at their leisure or even attend scheduled conferences or lectures.

What inspired you to become a Tour Leader and chase this incredible path?

Let’s be real, who wouldn’t want to travel and get paid for it? Plus, I love organising - anything from itineraries to people.

What’s the best part about leading tours?

Seeing different things each day, sitting at the front of the coach and looking at the scenery, meeting people from all over the world, and getting to know amazing cities like Paris, Florence and Barcelona like they are my own hometowns.

Ultimate favourite destination (anywhere on this planet)?

Anywhere on the Mediterranean (Turkey, Greece, Croatia, France, Italy, Spain) or in the Swiss Alps!

Is there a dream destination still on your list?

Svalbard Island in Norway. I want to see the polar bears roaming the streets. From a safe distance of course, and I would love to experience the midnight sun!

Which 3 bucket list items are still waiting for you?

  • Sail around the world
  • Build and live in a tree house with a view of the sea
  • Walk the Lycian Way, or embark on any amazing multi-day walk with scenic views and nice food along the way after a hard day of walking.

If you could lead a tour anywhere in the world, where would it be, and what makes that spot so special?

I would like to go anywhere in the Poles. I love the idea of the midnight sun! It’s so weird!

How do you spend your time when you’re not guiding adventurers?

  • Swim
  • Workout
  • Read
  • Eat all of the good food in the world

What’s something about you that would totally surprise your travellers?

I’m quite shy and public speaking makes me very nervous. (See, almost anyone can become a Tour Leader!)

What’s your favourite fun fact to share with people on tour?

I was born in Hong Kong but conceived in South Africa and I have a British and a Kiwi passport. Born to be a world citizen!

The most amazing meal you’ve had in the world?

There’s no way I could choose so let’s say Swiss fondue, Mexican, Indian, Italian, Vietnamese; you name it, I’ll love it!

Why do you think travel is essential for a fulfilling life?

Travel has this way of expanding people’s views and understanding of why the world is the way that it is. You genuinely become a better version of yourself!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Do a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. I know it’s cliché but it’s still true!
